Accessibility at Chester Pride 2017

Chester Pride aims to provide an enjoyable experience for all visitors to the event. The following information is aimed at people with mobility or other access needs.

The Site – Castle Square consists of level, tarmac ground accessible to people who use mobility equipment. (A map of the site is on the back page of the Pride Guide).

Chester’s disability charity DIAL West Cheshire (DIAL House) will be supporting disabled access at this event. DIAL’s Shopmobility Service will operate from a stand close to the Entrance Gate offering FREE hire of mobility equipment, including mobility scooters and wheelchairs. Please allow a few minutes to complete a brief registration process before using the equipment available.  All customers will be given instruction in the safe use of equipment and must demonstrate their competence to use such equipment. DIAL West Cheshire reserve the right to decline the hire of equipment if there is any doubt about a customer’s ability to operate mobility equipment safely.

Equipment will be made available on a first come, first served basis on the day. Alternatively, please contact DIAL West Cheshire Shopmobility (tel: 01244 312626) to enquire about pre-booking. All mobility scooter users (including people with their own equipment) are advised to proceed at slow speed in view of the anticipated crowds attending the event.

Refrigeration Point – A fridge will be available should you need medicine or specialist food keeping cold during your time at the festival. If this is required please speak to the Pride Information stall or Chester Shop Mobility and Dial House gazebo.

Accessible Food – If you need specialist food, there will be availability to use a private area in St Mary’s for feeding, but any specialist equipment will need to be brought with you.

Medical Services – Events Medical provides comprehensive medical advice and treatment facilities and are very flexible in meeting specific needs. They will be based on site. In the event of a medical emergency please alert our staff. If an emergency services vehicle needs to come on site, medical services and security teams will work together to get a crew to the right part of site by the best route.

For any further assistance that may be needed please contact David Redpath-Smith at Chester Pride who will be happy to make reasonable adjustments to meet need.

Car Parking – The nearest parking is located at Little Roodee car park and Chester Racecourse. Blue Badge parking is available at both sites which are located less than 100m from the event.

Drop-off and Pick-up Point – A drop-off and pick-up point for disabled people will be located at Castle Street close to the main Entrance Gate.

Toilets – Toilets, including accessible toilet(s), are located at disabled viewing platform and behind the Food, Drink and Seating area.
